Mr 240’s batteries are Lithium ion. There are two types, the older one is less stable and in extreme circumstances the euphemism is ‘uncontrolled thermal runaway’ - these guys should work for the military, with language like that... Supposedly the newer lithium ion used in his batteries are based around a phosphate, which is much more stable.
Luckily the exchange rate has improved recently, so the batteries for which I had a quote earlier in the year for $12,000 actually cost me closer to $7,000.
They arrived in two boxes lined in foam. You can see one of the boxes in the snap on the right, containing 21 blue Sky Energy batteries, each weighing around 3.3 kg.

Batteries are the critical technology on an EV. They vary in cost, power density and recharge cycles, as well as reliability. From lead acid, supercapacitors, fuel cells, lithium air and Lithium ion there is a wide range, many of them not yet on the shelves - like EVs really!
