MR2 now MR240v at last
2010
MR240v is mobile, and eating up the miles.... or should that be kilometres... and providing a little fun for the family at last, after all those weeks hiding in a workshop getting ‘upgraded’.
Of course some would argue that converting to an EV wasn’t an upgrade at all, given problems like range anxiety - feeling like someone’s given you a tiny five litre fuel-can to get home on; and having to charge it all the time.
On the other hand, it becomes more like a mobile phone, which we usually charge each night regardless, and I enjoy the fact that the increase in electricity charges are a lot less than the drop in fuel bills... AND that the PV panels on our roof are providing sustainable - green - power, producing no carbon to do it.
Now that the car is licensed I have time to work on the appearance side of things, the bling, as Daniel calls it, but I think he has suggested most of the ideas: blue LED lights in the old engine-bay-now-electric-motor bay; a clear plastic motor cover so people can see the batteries and motor and so on.
Drive on, and enjoy the zany feeling of being better than carbon-neutral, I am driving a zero-carbon car. Much better to walk and ride everywhere, of course, but when you have to drive, what a feeling!
MR 240V is on the road!

The MR2 now MR240v waiting in the Mosman Park station car park, enjoying the view on sunny Friday morning in May...
Daniel working on restoring the function of the tachometer in the MR240v... Apparently the controller doesn't put out enough power to drive a traditional analog gauge, so he built a small amplifier and added it into the circuit one morning... he made it look easy, but I’m guessing it wasn’t the sort of task I could have done, no matter how much instruction I was given!
